Frequently asked questions
Choosing your soap
What is Aleppo soap?
Aleppo soap is a traditional hard soap associated with Aleppo, Syria. Its characteristic recipe combines olive oil and laurel berry oil, which are made into soap using water and an alkali. The soap is poured, cut into bars, stamped and left to dry. ALEPO offers three laurel blends and an olive-only alternative made in Aleppo.
Which Aleppo soap should I try first?
Choose pure olive oil for the mildest scent, 10% laurel for a light bay note, 20% for a more noticeable bay scent, or 40% for the deepest bay scent in our range. If you want to compare before choosing a favourite, the Discovery Set contains one of each. Choose by scent, ingredients and budget; a higher percentage is not a skin-treatment rating.
What do 10%, 20% and 40% laurel oil mean?
The percentage describes the laurel berry oil share of the oils used to make the soap. A 20% bar uses 20% laurel oil and 80% olive oil; a 40% bar uses 40% laurel and 60% olive. It does not mean that 20% or 40% of the finished bar is raw laurel oil. Our pure olive bar contains no laurel oil.
What does Aleppo soap smell like?
Expect a natural, earthy oil scent rather than a floral or perfumed fragrance. Our pure olive bar has the mildest olive scent. The 10%, 20% and 40% laurel blends have progressively more pronounced bay notes. The scent can vary slightly between batches and becomes less intense as a bar is stored.
What is traditional Aleppo soap made from?
Traditional Aleppo soap is made using olive oil, laurel berry oil, water and sodium hydroxide, which reacts with the oils to form soap. ALEPO also offers a pure olive oil bar with no laurel oil. The oil blend describes the starting oils; ingredient names such as sodium olivate describe the soap formed from them. Check the ingredient information for the specific formula you are buying.
Where is ALEPO soap made?
Our soap is made in Aleppo, Syria, then shipped to customers from Vilnius, Lithuania. Making and dispatching are different stages: Lithuania is our fulfilment location, not the origin of the soap. Read Our story to see how the soap is poured, cut, stamped and dried.
Does 100% natural mean Aleppo soap is suitable for everyone?
No. Natural ingredients can still cause irritation or allergic reactions, and a short ingredient list is not a guarantee of suitability. The laurel percentage describes the recipe, not a medical benefit or a recommended skin type. Follow the product’s directions and avoid ingredients you know you react to. ALEPO does not claim to treat skin conditions.
Care and storage
How should I store Aleppo soap between uses?
Rinse away residue, then leave the bar on a draining soap dish where air can reach it. Keep it out of standing water and direct shower spray. Empty water collected underneath the dish. Store unused bars in a dry, ventilated cupboard; let a used bar dry before closing it in a travel tin.
How long does one bar of Aleppo soap last?
There is no single number that applies to every household. Bar size, how often it gets wet, how many people share it and whether it dries between uses all affect how quickly it wears down. Our bars weigh 190–225 g, depending on the formula. Start with a one-time order, note how long your first bar lasts, then choose a refill interval that matches your use.
Why can my Aleppo soap look different from the photo?
Each bar is cut and stamped by hand, so edges, surface marks and the position of the stamp vary. The outer colour also changes as the soap dries and ages. Our 40% laurel bar is the darkest in the range; pure olive is the lightest. Small cosmetic differences are normal, but contact us with a photo if your order appears damaged or incorrect.
Does Aleppo soap expire?
Do not assume a bar lasts forever. Follow any date and storage instructions on its packaging, and keep spare bars dry, ventilated and away from strong heat or sunlight. Oils can deteriorate and storage conditions vary. If the bar develops an unusual rancid smell, unexpected spots or other concerning changes, stop using it and ask the seller with a photo and batch details.
Delivery and returns
Where does ALEPO ship from, and what does EU delivery cost?
Orders ship from Vilnius, Lithuania. Delivery in Lithuania costs €3.90 and is free from €49. Delivery to all other EU countries, including Germany, is free from €89. Below the threshold, rates depend on destination and parcel weight; Germany starts at €5.49. Thresholds apply to the order value after discounts, excluding shipping. Your final delivery charge is shown at checkout. See our shipping policy.
When will my ALEPO order arrive?
The delivery estimate depends on your destination and the service available at checkout. We do not publish one guaranteed delivery time for all countries. You will receive an email when your parcel leaves us. If you need it by a particular date, email info@tryalepo.com with your destination before ordering so we can check rather than promise a date we cannot confirm.
Can I order ALEPO soap to the UK or US?
We also offer delivery to the UK and US. Free shipping starts at €99 for the UK and €129 for the US in EUR. Below these thresholds, shipping depends on parcel weight and destination. Available services, charges and the applicable currency are confirmed at checkout. Contact info@tryalepo.com if your address has no available delivery option.
Can I return an unused ALEPO order?
Our refund policy allows unused items in their original, undamaged packaging to be returned within 14 days of receipt. Email info@tryalepo.com with your order number and the items you want to return; we will provide the return address. Used bars cannot be returned under the change-of-mind policy. If something arrives damaged or incorrect, contact us so we can resolve that separately.
What should I do if my order is damaged or wrong?
Email info@tryalepo.com with your order number, a photo of the item and a photo of the packaging. Tell us which item is affected and keep the packaging while we review it. We will check the issue and arrange the appropriate replacement or refund. Handmade variations in colour or stamp position are different from transit damage or receiving the wrong formula.
What can I do if an ALEPO formula is sold out?
Use “Email me when it’s back” on the product page, if shown, or contact info@tryalepo.com about the formula you want. Do not assume a fixed restock date unless we have published one. Soap takes months to dry, so a new batch cannot be produced overnight. If you need soap sooner, compare the in-stock formulas by oil blend and scent.
Subscriptions
Can I buy Aleppo soap without a subscription?
Yes. Choose a one-time purchase and mix any of our four soaps. Buy 3–5 single bars to save 5%, or 6 or more to save 10%. The discount applies automatically in the cart. Accessories do not count toward the quantity. Subscription prices do not combine with these discounts.
How does the ALEPO soap subscription work?
Choose any mix of our four soaps and delivery every 1, 2 or 3 months. The current subscription price for each formula is shown in the purchase selector. These prices apply to each delivery and do not combine with quantity discounts. Skip, pause or cancel in your subscription portal before the next order is processed. Shipping is charged separately unless that delivery qualifies for free shipping.
How do I change or cancel my soap subscription?
Open “Manage subscription” from your account, the website footer or your order confirmation email. Select the subscription you want to change and review its next delivery date. You can change or cancel it under our subscription policy. Make changes before the next order is processed. If an option is missing or an order has already been created, email info@tryalepo.com with your order number.
Can I skip a subscription delivery if I still have soap?
Open “Manage subscription” and check the options for your next delivery. If skipping or rescheduling is available, confirm the new date in the portal. If you cannot find that option, contact info@tryalepo.com before the next order is processed. Do not assume a delivery is skipped until the portal or our team confirms the change.
Can I mix different Aleppo soaps in one order?
Yes. Use the product-page builder or Build your box to combine any of our four formulas. Choose a one-time purchase or a subscription. The Discovery Set starts with one of each formula; the Laurel Trio and Duo start with their named combinations. Your selected quantities and final price are shown before you add them to your basket.
