Aleppo soap is easier to find than ever. It sits on drugstore shelves in Germany, in Syrian-run shops in Berlin and Stuttgart, and in hundreds of online listings. The hard part is knowing which bars are the real thing, and what a fair price looks like.
So we checked. On 4 October 2026 we recorded the prices of 10 Aleppo bars from 7 sellers across the EU and UK, and converted them to price per 100 g. Here is what we found, and where we would buy.
Key takeaways
- Fair prices sit in a narrow band. Bars with 20-40% laurel cost €4.45-5.60 per 100 g in the EU and £3.80-5.70 per 100 g in the UK.
- The best seller tells you three things: the laurel percentage, the full ingredient list and the country of origin.
- The high street stocks it now. Rossmann sells an Aleppo soap at €8.99 for 180 g (Rossmann).
- Made in France or Turkey can still be genuine. Some Aleppo soap makers rebuilt abroad during the war.
- UK buyers: for orders of £135 or less, the seller must charge UK VAT at checkout (GOV.UK).
The short answer
Buy real Aleppo soap from a seller that states the laurel percentage, the ingredients and the country of origin for each bar, and expect to pay around €4.50-5.60 per 100 g for 20-40% laurel. Specialist online shops and Syrian-run shops are the most reliable. Drugstores and marketplaces work too, if you read the label.
Whatever you buy, check it when it arrives. Our guide on how to spot fake Aleppo soap has seven checks you can do in a minute.
What real Aleppo soap costs in 2026
Prices online look all over the place, because bars range from 100 g to 225 g and laurel from 5% to 70%. Per 100 g, the picture is much clearer.

In EU shops, every 20-40% laurel bar we checked cost between €4.45 and €5.58 per 100 g: a 20% bar from Maison du Savon de Marseille, 40% bars from Najel, Alepia and Zhenobya, and the PAOS bar at Rossmann, which does not state its laurel share.
In UK shops, prices ran from £3.00 per 100 g for a 12% Tadé bar to £5.67 for Tadé's 35% bar (French Soaps UK; Pure Source). Aleppo Soap UK sells 5% and 50% bars at about £3.10 and £3.90 per 100 g.
Two patterns stand out. Higher laurel usually costs more, as you would expect from a scarce oil; our guide to the laurel oil percentage explains why. And no established seller we checked sold a 20%+ laurel bar for less than about €4.45 or £3.80 per 100 g.
Pro Tip: Always compare per 100 g, not per bar. A €6 bar of 100 g costs more than a €9 bar of 190 g. Most EU shops show the unit price near the main price, as Rossmann does.
For context, back in 2010 an exporter told The National that industrial imitation soap sold for about $2 per kilogram, against $16 or more for traditional soap (The National, 2010). Today's fair prices are higher, but the gap still exists. A "40% laurel" bar at a fraction of the band above is a reason to ask questions.
Where to buy Aleppo soap
Each way of buying trades convenience against certainty. Here is how we see the options:

Specialist online shops
Shops that sell only Aleppo or traditional soaps are usually the clearest about laurel percentage, origin and cure. You cannot cut the bar before buying, but good shops show it cut open and list four ingredients. Watch the shipping cost below any free-shipping threshold.
Syrian and Middle Eastern shops
In larger European cities, Syrian-run shops often import directly from Aleppo. Lorbeerseife Berlin in Schöneberg sells soap from an Aleppo maker, and Zhenobya runs shops in Stuttgart selling soap "imported directly from Syria" (IPS, 2025). You can see, smell and ask about every bar.
Drugstores and health shops
In Germany, Rossmann stocks PAOS Original Aleppo Seife at €8.99 for 180 g. Drugstore bars are the easiest to pick up, but labels vary. Check for a stated laurel percentage and country of origin before you buy; EU rules require imported cosmetics to state their country of origin (EU Regulation 1223/2009).
Marketplaces: Amazon, Etsy and eBay
Marketplaces have the widest choice and the widest quality range. Some listings are excellent; others use "Aleppo" for bars made elsewhere. Look for a named maker, a stated laurel percentage, a four-item ingredient list and review photos of the green interior. Liquid products are a different case, covered in our guide to liquid Aleppo soap.
Aleppo makers abroad
Some genuine makers now work outside Syria. Hassan Harastani, whose Aleppo factory was bombed, moved to France in 2014 and makes Alepia soap in Angers (Reuters via Oman Observer, 2016). The Kadah family has made soap in Nizip, near Gaziantep in Turkey, since 2015 (New Lines Magazine, 2025). These bars follow the Aleppo method; their labels simply name a different country. Our article on Aleppo soap and the Syrian war tells the full story.
All options compared
| Where | Laurel % stated? | Origin clear? | Can you see the bar first? | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Specialist online shops | Usually, per bar | Usually | Photos only | Shipping costs below free-shipping thresholds |
| Syrian and Middle Eastern shops | Often, ask | Often direct from Syria | Yes | Limited to big cities |
| Drugstores and health shops | Sometimes | Check the label | Yes, wrapped | Bars without a stated laurel % |
| Marketplaces | Varies by listing | Varies | Photos and reviews | "Aleppo-style" bars, unclear sellers |
| Makers abroad (France, Turkey) | Yes | Yes, not Syria | Depends on shop | Nothing, if the label is honest |
If you want the most certainty with the least effort, a specialist shop that shows its bars cut open is the safest first buy. For a comparison of the best-known makers, see our guide to the best Aleppo soap brands.
Buying Aleppo soap in the UK
Since Brexit, buying from an EU shop works differently. For consignments of £135 or less, the seller must charge and account for UK VAT at the point of sale (GOV.UK). Above £135, normal import VAT and customs rules apply.
In practice, check that an EU shop shows UK VAT in its checkout before you pay, so you are not asked for it again on delivery. UK-based sellers such as French Soaps UK, Pure Source and Aleppo Soap UK avoid the question entirely.
Buying Aleppo soap in the EU
Within the EU there are no customs checks between member states, so a shop in Lithuania, France or Germany can ship to you like a domestic one. Your main costs are the bar and the shipping.
Alepo ships from Vilnius across the EU, with free shipping on orders over €50. Combining a few bars is usually the cheapest way to reach that threshold. Stored dry, extra bars keep well; see how to use Aleppo soap and make each one last.

Red flags in a listing
Whatever the channel, these signs suggest you are not looking at a traditional Aleppo bar:
- No laurel percentage, or the same price for every percentage.
- "Aleppo-style", "Aleppo recipe" or "inspired by Aleppo" without saying where it is made.
- Ingredients beyond olive oil, laurel oil, water and lye, such as parfum, palm oil or colourants. Our ingredients guide decodes the names.
- A price far below the band above for a high-laurel bar.
- Medical promises. Real makers describe the soap; they do not promise cures. See what the evidence says in our article on Aleppo soap benefits.
Pro Tip: Ask the seller one question: "Can you show me this bar cut open?" A genuine seller will happily share a photo of the green interior. Silence is an answer too.
Where Alepo fits
We are a seller too, so here is exactly what we offer. Alepo bars are made in Aleppo and contain only olive oil and laurel oil, at four strengths: Pure Olive from €7.90, 10% laurel from €9.90, 20% laurel from €12.90 and 40% laurel from €18.90.
We state the laurel percentage on every bar, price it by laurel share, and show our bars cut open. If you are new to Aleppo soap, our soap collection lets you compare strengths side by side. And if you want to know more about the soap itself, start with what Aleppo soap is.
Frequently asked questions
What should I check before buying Aleppo soap online?
Check the country of manufacture, full ingredient list, laurel oil share, bar weight and seller’s contact details. Compare the total cost including delivery, not only the headline bar price. Read the return conditions before buying a large set. At ALEPO you can start with one formula or compare all four in the Discovery Set.
How can I check whether Aleppo soap is authentic?
Start with a named seller or maker, a clear country of manufacture, the full ingredient list and the stated laurel oil proportion. Ask the seller about anything missing. A stamp, tan crust or green centre may be consistent with traditional production, but none proves origin or composition on its own. Packaging should distinguish soap made in Aleppo from soap made elsewhere using an Aleppo-style recipe.
Where does ALEPO ship from, and what does EU delivery cost?
Orders ship from Vilnius, Lithuania. Delivery in Lithuania costs €3.90 and is free from €49. Delivery to all other EU countries, including Germany, is free from €89. Below the threshold, rates depend on destination and parcel weight; Germany starts at €5.49. Thresholds apply to the order value after discounts, excluding shipping. Your final delivery charge is shown at checkout. See our shipping policy.
Can I order ALEPO soap to the UK or US?
We also offer delivery to the UK and US. Free shipping starts at €99 for the UK and €129 for the US in EUR. Below these thresholds, shipping depends on parcel weight and destination. Available services, charges and the applicable currency are confirmed at checkout. Contact info@tryalepo.com if your address has no available delivery option.
Can I return an unused ALEPO order?
Our refund policy allows unused items in their original, undamaged packaging to be returned within 14 days of receipt. Email info@tryalepo.com with your order number and the items you want to return; we will provide the return address. Used bars cannot be returned under the change-of-mind policy. If something arrives damaged or incorrect, contact us so we can resolve that separately.
The bottom line
Real Aleppo soap is easy to buy if you know what to ask for: a stated laurel percentage, four ingredients and a clear origin. Fair prices for 20-40% laurel run about €4.45-5.60 per 100 g in the EU and £3.80-5.70 in the UK.
Buy from a seller who answers those questions without hesitation, then check the bar when it arrives. If it is green inside under a tan crust, you got the real thing.
